Sector 14 by Amras-Arfeiniel Sector 14 by Amras-Arfeiniel
A scene from the Babylon 5 book "to dream in the city of sorrows".
Sinclair, Marcus and Sakai in their Whitestar-fighters before they arrive at the time-rift area in sector 14.
(This event is canon)

I'm not entirely happy with this picture... but I don't know why. :paranoid:

*edit: I made the first place in the Babylon5 Tribute Contest on Foundation3d with the Whitestarfighter. Wuhuuuu

Beautiful image. Very well done.

When I heard that Michael O'Hare passed away, one of the first things I thought was "Now I'll never get to see a 'To Dream In The City Of Sorrows' TV movie." :-(

Beautiful render. This fits the style B5 perfectly, though it might be just a bit better than their CGI, but I guess time'll do that to computing.

Conrad’s on the win you well deserve it you do them Great Justice! And as promised I'm back to say Brilliant job man, I love how the lighting shimmers across the skin of the whitestars's hull very nicely done just as the rift effect is as it was in style of the show!

I can see the lighting from whatever is creating the flash of light overhead is causing the stars closes to it to seem dimmer as it should is well done yet leaves to question what is causing it? And I saw a suggestion here that maybe the rift should have had more of a fisheye effect which might have given a less 2 dimensional feel. Maybe that's what's throwing this otherwise Beautiful view point off for you.

The flash of light is from the sun which illuminates the fighters.
The idea with the fisheye effect is good. But I worry that the effect will disappear under the details of the time rift stuff.^^

But it's nice even if You are not so happy with it! :-)

Hm, I still haven't read the books. (Actually it's pretty hard to get them, especially aournd my place)
I tell You a secret folks. I still haven't watched the last episode of B5. (About 3 months since I saw the semi-final.) I just don't the story to end.... and the last episodes were already so sad (even though good).

Yes, the books are rare. I still don't have the last one of Legions of Fire. They want have 40€ for it....

If you ever watch the last episode be sure you have a handkerchief within reach. You will need it.
Well, I did need one. :D :D

Love it! A really really nice picture you´ve made ;)
The only thing i would change is the rift itself. You can see the stars from the background through it.
I would make it not transparent.
But this is just my opinion :)

I haven't read the book, since B5 is paradoxically circular, and since Sinclair is on one of the fighters, is this before Sinclair becomes Valen.

Fantastic Shot though, would adding a black lens like effect over the event horizon of the rift help, I seem to remember one in the Series.

Yes, it is before Sinclair becomes Valen but after he had left the Station.

I think what you remember is the null-field and not the time-rift. I did stay very close to what we saw in the show.

Haven't watched that episode in a long time, this its time to break out the box sets. But either way you're always close to it, and in a lot of cases, you superceed the original by a country mile! :)

That colour scheme on the whitestars looks far better than the blue used in the series, it accents the organic nature of the ships systems imho.

I didn't know the White Star fighters were canon before Crusade (and I'm not arguing, as I've not read that book). I think it's a very good image though :)

Well, the fact that they did exist is canon. But not the design that you can see in the picture. That's my own, based on the description in the book.

JMS wrote in the introduction of the book:
"To Dream in the City of Sorrows is not simply a licensed book set in the BABYLON 5 universe."
"While most of the Dell books to date have contained some elements that are considered canon, this is the very first one that is considered canonical in every small detail."
"What you hold in your hand is an official, authorized chapter in the BABYLON 5 story line."
"This is the definitive answer to the Sinclair question, and should be considered as authentic as any episode in the regular series."
